Nuclear explosion on Czech TV
June 17, Czech artistic group ZTOHOVEN (a pun meaning „out of it“ when read or hundred shits spoken) interfered on Czech TV broadcast.
Members of ZTOHOVEN connected up to one of the stationary camera during TV weathercast and in real time broadcast their own shots, which showed nuclear explosion. Then the picture changed. Instead of the name of the locality (Black Mine) the website reference ZTOHOVEN.com (
now is overloaded) came up on the screen.

The website welcomes visitors with announcement „This is media reality“. Website contains photos of three veiled persons moving around a building propbably provided with the infiltrated camera of Czech TV. A guestbook is available as well.
The Czech TV spokesman Martin Krafl protested against the interference: „The fake broadcast was really very inadvisable and could have provoced panic within large group of poeple." Czech police investigates the event.
An artistic group ZTOHOVEN has alredy undertaken two happenings, that attracted attention of mainstream media. In January 2003 they attampted to veil half of a neon heart installed at Prague castl by artist Jiri David on the occasion of the Vaclav Havel´s end of presidency. Pics: 1, 2, 3
November same year they covered 800 citylights in Prague with their own posters in the protest against advertisement. Pics: 1, 2
The idea of faked broadcast comes in fact already from 2003. The idea was perhaps revetalised by the actual situation where Czech republic is trying to solve the problem of the building of the american radar on its territory.
The hackered program Panorama is forty minutes long TV broadcast that shows actual weather in different czech locations by panoramatic cameras.

Ztohoven vs. Czech Television (8th January 2008)
Hackers smuggle mushroom cloud into CT's live broadcasting
By Prague Daily Monitor/ČTK / Published 18 June 2007
Prague, June 17 (CTK) - The Ztohoven artistic group hacked into the Panorama morning programme of public Czech Television's CT2 channel with an image of a mushroom cloud with a reference to the group's web page.
Czech Television has already filed a criminal complaint against damaging intellectual rights and scare mongering. The police have started to investigate the case.
CT spokesman Martin Krafl told CTK that the group succeeded with the help of the internet and further technology to hack into a camera broadcasting live from the Krkonose (Giant) Mountains, east Bohemia.
Krafl stressed that broadcasting from CT's headquarters has not been affected. He said the camera into which the group hacked is operated by an external firm that cooperates with CT.
Krafl said Czech Television has already found out the owner of the internet address.
The perpetrators face one year in prison for their pirate spot lasting about 30 seconds, CT said.
Panorama is broadcast every morning, featuring many places in the country shot by panoramic cameras, and offering weather information.
Krafl said the programme is viewed by fewer than 50,000 people in this season of the year.
This has not been the first action by the controversial Ztohoven group. Its members also changed into a question mark the red neon heart by Jiri David that was installed at Prague Castle during the last days of Vaclav Havel's tenure as Czech president.
In 2003 they covered 800 advertising showcases in Prague's underground with white posters featuring a large black question mark and a reference to their internet pages.
One of the group members said they wanted to alert people to how advertisements "abuse our innermost desires, ideas and feelings in order to sell goods."
Info: - 17.6.2007 - Zuseher glauben an echten Atomangriff.
(Oh, as a footnote, Isaac Newton saw this coming. In papers that are part of an exhibit in Jerusalem, Newton mused on Biblical issues and even calculated the date of the apocalypse. He had it at 2060, earliest, though when you factor in the margin of error -- about 18 years per century -- we're in range.)
FAntastic! :D A really strange idea... :D
V Česku ilegální vstup do vysílání proslavil pohádkový Rumburak.
We are neither a terrorist organization nor a political group, our aim is not to intimidate the society or manipulate it, which is something we witness on daily basis both in real world and in the world created by the media. Whether the reasons are political interests, market interests, financial interests or interests of supranational companies – we meet hidden manipulation and attempt to invade the subconscious mind of citizens with specific products or ideology, using all available means. We do not think that a subtle distortion of such system or an appeal to pure common sense of people and their ability to remain unaffected are harmful, not even in a democratic society. That is why, several years ago, the art group “Ztohoven”? penetrated the public sphere of Prague, questioned the space given to advertisement generally and the space given to specific adverts. On the 17th of June 2007 this group attacked the space of TV broadcasting. It distorted it, questioned its truthfulness and its credibility. It drew attention to the possibility of using images of the world created by the media in place of the existing, real world. Is everything we see daily on our TV screens real? Is everything presented to us by the media, newspapers, television, Internet actually real? This is the concept our project would like to introduce and remind of. We believe that even the free space of public service broadcaster is able to endure such action and such impeachment. We hope our action will become an appeal for the future and remind the media of their duty to bring out the truth. Thank you for independent media and free space for our society
CNN: Hoax nuke blast seen on TV weather
PRAGUE, Czech Republic (AP) -- Members of a Czech art group who hacked into television broadcasting with images of a hoax nuclear explosion were charged and will have to stand trial, a state prosecutor said Thursday.
A freeze-frame from the Web cam shows an image of a nuclear explosion.
The six members of the Prague-based Ztohoven group were charged last month with spreading false information and face up to three years in jail if convicted, said Dusan Ondracek, the state prosecutor in the northern town of Trutnov, who is in charge of the case.
The trial could begin by the end of January, Ondracek said.

On June 17, viewers of a Czech television channel watching a Web cam program monitoring weather in various Czech mountain resorts could see a nuclear explosion taking place in the Krkonose or Giant Mountains in the northern Czech Republic.
In December, the project was awarded the NG 333 prize for young artists by Prague's National Gallery together with a cash prize of 333,000 koruna (US,350).
